This is a post-World War II theater overlooking Moran Hill (the highest and most scenic spot in Pyongyang proper) and hosted the first meeting of the Supreme People's Assembly in 1948. The basement offices were one of the DPRK Government headquarters during the Korean (Victorious Fatherland Liberation) War. KWP/NDC Chairman Kim Jong Il comissioned an ambitious remodeling project of the theater in December 2004 which included the removal of amplified sound for acoustic and a renovation of the stage and lighting. According to the KCNA, General Kim visited the theater in December 2006 for a New Year's concert and examined the renovation (pictured above).
