The northern gate of Pyongyang Castle, Chilsong Gate (Chilsongmun) was first built in the 6th century, and later rebuilt in 1714. The gate pavilion was destroyed by American bombing in 1952 and restored in 1954. It is named after the Big Dipper (literally, "Seven Stars"), which holds special importance in Korean folk religion.
