theatre, 1989_construction
The East Pyongyang Grand Theater was constructed from 1988 to 1989 and opened in May 1989. It covers 62,000 square metres (about 15 acres). It is a venue for chorale and art groups, such as the Mansudae Art Troupe, who gave a January 2007 concert commemorating the renovation of the theater. It was the site of the 2008 concert by the New York Philharmonic. Touring orchestras and choral groups also give performances here.
