Building 6, built in 1909, was the second power plant for the hospital, replacing the services of building 59. In the late 1920s, a massive new addition, the equivalent of a new power plant, was added to the existing building and the two became one. By 1966, building 6 had become obsolete and a new power plant, building 29, was built around a hundred yards to the northwest.

In 1968, almost all of the building 6 complex was demolished except for a small portion of the original part of the building. The reason for this preservation was because building 6 was also a main junction between steam tunnels when building 29 was hooked into the steam tunnel system. The building's primary purpose after 1968 was a pump house for hot water/steam.

The remaining portion of building 6 was demolished in mid-August 2012.
