Sarpi (Georgian: სარფი; Turkish: Sarp) is a village on the coast of the Black Sea of Georgia, on the border with Turkey. It is inhabited by the Laz.
History
In 1921, based on the Treaty of Kars, the village of Sarpi was divided into two. The border between the Georgian SSR and Turkey was determined to be the small river Tobashi coming down from the village of Sarpi. A village within the Turkish state is also called Sarfi.
During the times of the USSR, Sarpi entered the border zone and to get here, a special permit was required. This regime was effective until 1995.
