The famous stand of SGT Yakov Fedotovich Pavlov. General Chuikov commented that SGT Pavlov had killed more Germans defending that house than the Germans lost invading France in 1940.
The house has been restored and has monuments on both the front and rear.
Across the street (large round structure) is one of the best museums of WWII, on par with the Imperial War Museum in London. NE of the museum is the remnants of a Mill that was left untouched as a reminder to how much destruction befell the city of Stalingrad.

  • It is Yakov Fedotovich Pavlov, not Ivan........ "Yakov Pavlov has often been confused with Ivan Dmitriyevich Pavlov, another veteran of Stalingrad, possibly due to similarities in their biographies. Ivan Pavlov went on to join the Russian Orthodox Church after the war, and is today one of its most revered elders."
  • The commanding officer was Yakov Pavlov, not Ivan Dmitriyevich Pavlov!!! The two are not the same person.
  • I've edited the page and changed the name to Yakov Fedotovich Pavlov.
  • How come germans lost more troops attacking the Pavlovs house, than they lost in France 1940? Because according to wikipedia, german losses of invasio of France in 1940 were: 27,074 dead, 110,034 wounded and 18,384 missing in all: 49,000 dead (later stated)[5]
  • General Chuikov 's comment was that the Germans lost more there than in taking PARIS.
