oil and gas industry, oil pumping station (OPS)

The station is the last of 3 pumping stations in Syria (T1 is on Iraqi soil) that pump crude oil (from Syria & Iraq) through a network of pipelines to the oil-tanker terminals at the Mediterranean coast of Syria.
The station is self-contained, with its own shop, a surgery with a resident doctor, even a school for the employees' children. The whole station is surrounded with trees and protected by a high wire security fence, while the administration block has an additional security door made of thick steel. It is a man-made oasis in the middle of the desert and there were a handful of British engineers and Arab staff, who lived there with their families.
