Jammikunta is an old town dated back to 10th century. Historical evidences show that Ahomallapa Deva, popularly known as Thailapa Deva-II belong to the dynasty of Kalyana Chalukyas. Thailapa Deva-II constructed a temple of lord Shiva along with an Aditya Deepa Vriksha at Dhammikunta, after the victory over Munjaraju belong to Paramara dynasty of Malava. This construction was completed and inaugurated on 5th April 995 AD. Gouda Nagaiah of the village appointed to light the lamp at the Deepa Vriksha. There is a Jyothirlingam in the temple, but the successive rulers neglected it and hence it was not included in the Dwadasa Jyothirlingas. Dhammikunta is derived from the words of Dhammi means lotus and Kunta means pond. Therefore, Dhammikunta means pond with lotus flowers. Over a period of time this was pronounced and known as Jammikunta. It is only after the laid down of railway track at present Jammikunta, the modern town came into existence. Still the old Jammikunta people call the new Jammikunta as mere "Station" which represents the railway station. Ellandakunta is famous for the temple of lord Rama, popularly known as "Apara Bhadradri". There is a splendid festival takes place on every Sri Rama Navami. It is situated at a distance of 3 kms from Jammikunta. Now Jammikunta is a town and Mandal in Karimnagar District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a small town with a population more than 50,000 and it is a centre for trade and education for around 60 surrounding villages. Jammikunta is well connected with rail and road.
