  This is the "Source Fountain" created by landscape architect Lawrence Halprin. It is meant to be the symbolic spring source of the Lovejoy, Pettigrove and Keller fountains. These fountains were commissioned by the city of Portland in the 1960s and 1970s and are considered important in the world of Landscape Architecture for their human scale and interactive nature inviting usage and play in the fountains and associatated public spaces themselves.
