This is Pallikaranai Marsh slowly shrinking and dying due to Government's lethargic attitude which has made this as Chennai Corporations dumpyard. This could be made a bird sanctury as migratory birds visit this place and it has also the capacity to prevent the flodding of southern suburbs of Chennai like Velachery, Madipakkam, Pallikaranai, Nangannalur and Adambakkam

  • Chennai Corporation is using it for garbage disposal, sewage treatment, as well as for drainage. This had inadvertantly affected the ecological balance of this marsh land.
  • Dumps from this place should be transferred to local politicians's residence which will make them to understands its menace
  • Yes i agree madhan's comment. The dumps should be transferred to local politicians bed room
  • Real estate encrochment, unauthorised development and reckless Government Patta means this Marsh land will not be there in 10 years.Lungs of chennai - Pallikarani Marsh has always absorbed the Monsoon floods. Now thers is no natural drain for flood waters.THIS IS SAID TO BE THE WORLDS LARGEST FRESH WATER MARSH LAND.Lot of people will suffer due to the greed of some.
  • I AM RESIDING AT PALLIKARANAI. WE PEOPLE LIVING IN PALLIKARANAI ARE VERY AFRAID OF THE FUTURE DUE TO THE SEWAGE AND GARBAGE DUMPED NEAR PALLIKARANAI [ BALAJI NAGAR ]. OUR AREA COUNCILERS ARE NOT TAKING ANY PRECAUTION TO ERADICATE THIS DISASTEROUS AREA. THEY JUST WANT SOME PLACE TO DUMP THE GARBAGE AND SO WITHOUT THINKING OF THE FUTURE, AS THEY WANT TO DO THAT DAY'S JOB THEY DUMP IT IN THE PLACE THUS MAKING A HELL TO THE PASSANGERS PASSING THROUGH THE WAY AND ALSO THE PEOPLE RESIDING NEARBY. SO I REQUEST THE VIEWERS TO AGAINST THE ACT AND PROVIDE A PEACEFUL AND GREENISH LIFE......
  • I pass through this way everyday to go for office. I cannot imagine the life of ppl living in these area. the life of all the marine life and flora fauna would even be mroe deplorable because they have nowhere else to go. they don't even know how the contamination of ground and water is going to kill them slowly... The people in this area should rise and unite against dumping of waste in the area... right now they are the one's getting truly affected... if they do not do anything against it.. who will? bring the corporate(TCS) also into it... all its employees must be suffering too...
  • I m residing at velachery since 20 years. I perfectly agree with everyone's comments about negligence of authorities and the way in which this place is being used as a dumpyard. But lets take a moment and agree that we are pretty much part of it... In Chennai (India in general) environmental conservation /awareness is zero / negligent. people consider polluting the env / disrespecting public place as birth right.... I used to pass through this same place to my college for 4 years. I had decided since then that I wont litter around in any part of my country and contribute to such stuff. Many of my friends, and area people who are all literates and are serving in high profile jobs still lack awareness on environment conservation. They used to make fun of me saying "You alone cannot change it... ".. but i used to request their help in the same. Till date even high profile people, middle class people I have seen in chennai who speeed in their cars (who try to talk that they are the most sensible people in the world) think littering on the roads during their drive is their birth right. Coming back to my point about pallikaranai.... i m in no support to some place being used as a dumpyard for garbage produced by the rest of the adjoining areas.. but we need to agree that .. it is just not politician's responsibility .. let everyone of us ... start the awareness at home.... n i m sure chennai will be a better place to live in... here are a few tips... 1. separate dry vs wet garbage at home.. 2. use big shopper bag for purchasing groceries and dont give the typical chennai question "waaaaat? u dont even give cover? " to the shopkeeper.. (i have advised some shops in my locality not to give covers for people who purchase groceries and they are some awesome people ... they are following it religiously.. even though some of them came back to me saying customers are calling them names ;) ) 3. Please dont litter when u r outside ur house.. n please please please bring up ur children also the same way.... 4. Spread the word... if u r in some corporates... organise a environment awareness day to do so... otherwise put up some nice posters in ur workplace..
  • Sorry state of Tamil Nadu Government's eunuch attitude in controlling anti socials dumping sewage water and dumping waste in these marsh lands. No doubt this land is ruled by DRACULAS and EXORCISTS. Atleast this government supports Ravan for all his good deeds, following him as a role model let the government bring atleast "RAVAN RAJ" in Tamil Nadu. This soil has produced great people like Saint Thiruvalluvar , Subramania Bharathi, Thanthai Periyar, Muthuramalinga Devar and the list goes endless who will never like to see this sorry state of this TAMIL NADU.
  • Wetlands are amongst the most beneficial ecosystems in the world, comparable to rain forests and coral reefs they help in eco balance. They should be protected at all costs. I am at a loss how TN governement geologists are not even involved or addressed in this effort.
  • This lake has the potential to be one of the best tourist spots in chennai. We can develop three marine drives (as in mumbai) in this area... Think of the following on the banks of this 1. Broad Roads with well laid Pavements 2. Nice International Restaurants in High Raised Buildings 3. 2 - 3 Kms of Fenced Walking area (Imagine walking on the banks) 4. All in a row 5. There can be Cruises Why none of our goverment officials think like this....It will be a good spot for Professionals like us come & relax. Indian Governement why don't you change atleast now..
  • மனிதர்கள் மனது வைத்தால் நல்ல மாற்றம் வரலாம்
  • REAL ESTATE BROKERS ARE REALLY SPOILING THIS AREA. GOVT. IS NOT ABLE TO CURTAIL THEM. A STRONG ACTION TO BE TAKEN BY THE GOVT. AUTHORITIES. LOTS OF UNAUTHORISED BROKERS AND CHEATING IN REAL ESTATES IS HAPPENING.
  • it is great to see our citizens have concern for the wildlife. we have to prevent the sale of these lands by real estate agencies. the government should assign "forest reserve" status to it. our wildlife is our wealth. we cant let them die like this.
  • any idea who i can talk to regarding the current state of this wetland? is there an official or someone? im working on a project regarding conservation of wetlands.
  • This shows how reluctant our peope are... we should not let this go
