neighbourhood, region, residential neighbourhood
The historically Black community, originally settled by former slaves of Governor Pease's farm. While initially deprived of city services throughout its history as an attempt to force its residents to move to the east side, gentrification began in the 1970s, after residents resisted the construction of a freeway which would have run approximately along Enfield road.
Clarksville was, at one time, home to musician Townes Van Zandt.
