The refuge is also home to the 5,766-acre Bayside Resaca Area. This area contains an excellent example of a resaca (a kind of meandering channel) that supports a variety of vegetation, including several types of coastal salt marsh communities. Bayside Resaca Area is designated a National Natural Landmark.
