"Indonesia and the Fresh Water World" is a big theme of the show of a collection of Fresh Water Aquarium. The building is located on an artificial lake adjacent to the Golden Snail Flower Garden and Butterfly Park & Insect Museum, inaugurated on April 20, 1994.
A predominantly green color building consists of two floors covering 5500 m2 formed together with the freshwater environment. Besides as a tool of demonstration and exhibition of freshwater biodiversity by presenting geographic ecosystem simulations and replicas of the original wetlands, freshwater aquarium is also a means of recreation, education, research, conservation, and attractions.
Aquarium Park is the largest freshwater biota park and most comprehensive in the world and second largest in Asia, save a 6000 tail of 126 species, consists of various types, size, origin, either from the various waters Indonesia and other parts of the world, including aquatic plants, reptiles, crustaceans, and fish. Aquarium Park is equipped with Museum, library, auditorium, Nusantara aquarium, Reptiles corner, Carp alley, and quarantine rooms, built at the rear to accommodate the collection and breeding from farmers which could be sold to visitors, the public, and exporters.
Aquarium Park also opens opportunities for students and public to do the research and observations related to the development of science and business opportunities of ornamental fish.
Several special collections are derived from native freshwater of Indonesia, such as Arwana/siluk (Scleropages formosus), hiu gergaji (Pristis microdon), Tapah (wallago leerii), chopsticks fish, bloated fish which can be bloated like a balloon, and others. Also, there is also a collection of fascinating species of fish, such as Arapaima (Arapaima gigas), piranha (serrasaimus) from the Amazon River in South America, blind fish, butterfly fish, Chinese high-fin fish (myxocyprinus asiaticus asiaticus) from the Yangtze River -China, as well as groups of small fish like Guppy, Molly, and platy.
