Bodiam Castle

United Kingdom / England / Hawkhurst /
National Trust property (UK), moated castle, Grade I Listed (UK), historic ruins

Bodiam Castle is described by the National Trust as the "perfect example of a late medieval moated castle". Built in 1385, the castle was intended either as a defense against French raids or as a symbol of wealth and status for the knight who owned it. Most of the interior was dismantled in 1643, by Parliamentary forces in the English Civil War.
