office building
Add category
7-story office building completed in 1928. Designed by Frederick Meister, it is clad in beige brick above a ground floor of black stone, metal, and glass. The eastern two bays have banded piers and the stone rises up higher than the others. The main entrance is in the 2nd bay from the east and has glass double-doors with narrow sidelights and transom; a small glass canopy covers the doors. The end bay matches the design of the entry bay, but with paneled windows in place of doors. The middle bays have many-paneled windows and French doors enclosing a restaurant space, with a metal service door at their east end. The western bay has a storefront with the main entrance to the restaurant, with a rounded, black canvas canopy covering the glass double-doors and extending out over the sidewalk.
At the 2nd floor white stone piers with simple capitals overlay the brick cladding and divide the facade into three wide bays at the west, with two narrower bays at the east. The middle of the three wide bays has a band of six windows, while the other two have 4-window bands, all in black metal framing with white stone sills. The two east bays have double-windows, and the 2nd floor is capped by a white stone cornice. At the upper floors the 4-window bands split into separate bays of double-windows, and the metal mullions between panes are wider. Continuous stone sill courses run below each floor, and some protruding air-conditioning units dot the facade. A simple parapet marks the roof line.
The ground floor is occupied by Shun Lee Cafe.
