  • The Molakalmuru Silk Sarees have been identified with Geographical Indication by the Government of India. The Silk sarees, unique because of handloom variety and intricate designs depicting friuts,birds and animals were appreciated even by the late Maharaja of Mysore H H Nalwadi Krishnarajendra Wodeyar during his visit to the town in 1914. The taluk is also known for the 2nd century Ashokan inscriptions in Pali language found in the nearby Siddapura village which gives a clear hint for the extent of mighty empire of King Ashoka. It was the north eastern border of the erstwhile Mysore kingdom.
