Balham (say Bal-um), in the London Borough of Wandsworth is a suburban area which appeared in a famous spoof travel documentary presented by Peter Sellers. The phrase 'Balham - Gateway to the South' actually comes from Southern Railway adverts long before that. It is served by the London Underground and National Rail.

Raymond Burns (Captain Sensible from the Damned) and Ainsley Harriott, the TV celebrity chef both come from here.

  • It's not dull anymore... Balham is no longer up and coming but has come - this historic event marked by the introduction of a Starbucks
  • Yep, Balham is now the place to be. It was a rough area when I moved here in 1986, but now... well, blink and someone will open a trendy restaurant!
  • IS VERY COOL
