Plaza de la Constitucion is the most important city square, in historical terms. Here was the town hall, the jail, el Corregimiento (King's magistrate office, they called Corregidor) and all celebrations were held here, corrida, executions and religious events. Recently, the square was restructured in modern style. In the southwest corner is a beautiful fountain, dating from the sixteenth century: Fountain Genoa, or Carlos V.
