This was the main house of the city estate of Princes Meshchersky (earlier E. A. Volkova) from the mid 18th century, revised in 1817-1823 by the architect A. G. Grigorev.

After the reconstruction in 1817-1823 a bas relief panel with muses was placed on the front facade of the building.
