Wilderen is a village in the Belgian province of Limburg and a sub-municipality of Sint-Truiden, it was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1971.
Wilderen was first mentioned in 1139 as Wilre, derived from the Latin term for farm. Wilderen, together with Grazen, formed a manor under the county of Duras. In the early 13th century it became a fief of the county of Loon, but half of Wilderen was donated by the Count of Duras to the Abbey of Sint-Truiden.
In Wilderen the mother church stood for the county to which Runkelen also belonged. Wilderen still forms a single parish together with Duras.
