tower, city wall, historic ruins
A tower on the inner wall of the double Theodosian Walls of Constantinople. The tower flanks the Silivri Gate (originally the Melantias Gate in the Middle Ages) from the north. An inscription records repairs under the emperors Basil II and Constantine VIII, apparently following damage sustained during the earthquake of 989.
