Holiday Inn Chelsea

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 26th Street, 125

212-foot, 24-story modernist hotel completed in 2009. Designed by Gene Kaufman, it is set far back from the street and clad in grey brick above a ground floor with grey metal panels. The centered entrance has sliding glass doors covered by an arched, metal-and-glass canopy that extends all the way out to the sidewalk. To the right is a window, and to the left are two secondary entrances. At the five western piers, the metal cladding extends up in an acute triangle onto the brick of the 2nd floor.

The four western bays of the upper floors have double-windows with uneven panes and black metal air-conditioning vents below them. The east end bay has taller triple-windows that wrap around the corner, and have thin black metal spandrels between floors. The top floor has a band of glass across the full facade. At each floor the east-bay windows wrap around to the east facade for one pane, with the grey brick continuing a short distance back; the rest of the east elevation is lighter-grey concrete.
