"The Lindens" (Sands Point, New York)

Estate home designed Augustus N. Allen c. 1910 in the Georgian Revival style for Julius Fleischmann {Yeast} with a stable outbuilding designed by James W. O'Connor. The estate was purchased by George Tuttle Brokaw {attorney} in 1924, who died shortly thereafter. Mrs. Moses Schwartz purchased the estate from George T. Brokaw's wife Frances in 1925.

Alfred G. Vanderbilt, II bought the 6-acre estate in 1938. His mother, Margaret Emerson, had been living at nearby "Cedar Knoll" since 1931, and his brother George lived in an adjoining estate. Alfred and his wife Manuela Hudson made improvements to the 23-room Colonial and its large garage, chauffeur's and superintendent's quarters, bathhouse and tennis court. Vanderbilt moved to "Broadhollow" in Brookville by 1946.
