Estate home built c. 1888 in the Mediterranean style on originally 150 acres for William Guggenheim, Sr {industrialist}. It was named "Waterside Farm". Guggenheim served as a manger of the Guggenheim family's mining and smelting interests in Mexico. Additionally, he served as superintendent of Philadelphia Smelting & Refining Co. It was built on land formerly belonging to the Mott family.
In 1928, William A. Harriman {capitalist, financier, diplomat} purchased the estate. Harriman served as chairman of the board of several railroads including Union Pacific, president of the W.A. Harriman and Brown Brothers Harriman investment firms, and served as ambassador to the Soviet Union during the FDR administration from 1943-46. In 1960, Harriman sold the estate to his mother in law Beulah Einstein Norton after living there for fourty years.
It was then subsequently owned by Harold Berritt. It has since been subdivided in 2000 into 16 homes on two acre plots each called Harriman Estates.
