Estate home built c. 1924 in the French Renaissance style on originally 16 acres of land for Donald Hearn Cowl {merchant}. Cowl served as president of James Hearn & Son Department Store which was founded by his great-grandfather. Cowl Thomas Harlan Ellett design the service court which included a garage, guest house, and caretaker's cottage as well as likely the main residence.

The estate was later purchased by Thomas D. Neelands, Jr {capitalist, financier} who renamed the estate "La Presqu'lle". Neelands was a founder of N.R. Airways which operated at Roosevelt Field, chairman of Robinson Aviation and Capitol Airlines which merged into United Airlines in 1960. He also was the founder of the T.D. Neelands, Jr. & Co. investing firm and was the chairman of Proctor-Sillex Corp.

The estate was subsequently owned by Alexander Milton Lewyt who had gardens planted by Lewis & Valentine. While the main residence was demolished in the 1960's, the service court is still standing.
