Originally part of the late 1600's 300-acre+ Dodge Family farm, from Hempstead Harbor west to Manhasset Bay. Purchased by William Bourke Cockran, educator, lawyer, U.S. Representative from New York State, in 1885. The estate called The Cedars, which then stretched from Hempstead Harbor to just west of Port Washington Boulevard, was bought by oil magnate Joshua S. Cosden after W. Bourke Cockran passed in 1923. In 1926, Cosden sold to nearby resident Vincent Astor who subsequently began the process to develop the property, through the Harbor Acres Realty Co.

It is now known as the Harbor Acres section of Sands Point. The main estate house remained amidst the development until the mid 2000's.
