Former lands of "Spring Hill," designed by John Russell Pope, was built for Wall Street stock broker, William L. Stow. In 1906, the 160+ acre estate was purchased by Henry Carnegie Phipps. The house was demolished following the death of Phipps wife, in 1971 (taxes were costing the family 70K a year for the vacant house).
In 2004, the estate was sold with plans for a subdivision by Kean Development which retained the main gate and the outbuildings. As of 2021, only roughly half of the plots have been sold.
