After the passing of Allman Bros. Band guitarist Duane Allman, in February of 1973 The words 'REMEMBER DUANE ALLMAN" were carved into this old embankment on the west side of US 20 by a weight station by college freshmens Don Anotine, Dennis Garner, Len Raines and David Reid. The carving lasted throughout the remainder of the 70's and into the early 1990s but it was no longer visible by 1988 despite the letters being fully covered and buried under the vegetation.
