Official Designation of Chargaon Dam Irrigation Project is " Chargaon Dam , D - 01364 " . However local and popular name is " Chargaon Lake / Chargaon Talav ". Chargaon Dam was constructed as parts of Irrigation Projects by the Government of Maharashtra in the year 1983 . It is built on and impounds Chargaon River . Nearest city to dam is Varora (Warora) in Chandrapur District of Maharashtra . The dam is an Earth fill Dam .The length of the dam is 3065 m ( 10055.77 Feet ) .However this length is divided in two section by a spillway. , The Height of the dam above lowest foundation is 14.4 m ( 47.2440 feet ) . Project has Ogee type spillway . Length of the spillway is not known. The Dam has ungated spillway . The Dam's catchment area is 14.83 Thousand Hectors . Maximum / Gross storage capacity is 21.7 MCM. Live storage capacity is 19.866 MCM. Now a days almost all the water bodies make for good picnic spots. Chargaon Lake is also a popular Tourist attraction for its scenic beauty .Hilly terrain and forest adds to the natural beauty.
