NYPL Columbus Branch Library

USA / New Jersey / West New York / Tenth Avenue, 742

3-story Renaissance-revival library completed in 1909. Designed by Babb, Cook & Willard, it is a branch of the New York Public Library. The facade is clad in Indiana limestone, organized into three large bays. At the ground floor the bays are tall round-arches, with the entrance in the north bay. It has metal-and-glass double-doors, narrow sidelights, and a transom below the fanlight of the arch. A short stone wall section extends from either side of this bay, topped at the ends by an orb, and iron light fixtures are mounted on either side of the doorway.

The 2nd floor is set off by a simple band course and has large, square-headed window openings with horizontal transom panes surmounting double-windows. Each window has a surround with thin stone pilasters with slender brackets at the top supporting a triangular pediment. The short attic floor has no openings and is not apparent from the outside.
