Interesting... Easy to spot when flying in from Dallas. What's up with this area? Looks like a lot of land was platted out, and dirt roads were graded. But there's hardly anything built here.

  • wow, you mean that massive plans fell through??
  • Maybe it was made for future use.
  • Check out the sattelite view; If this area was built out, it would easily double the size of El Paso! Were there plans for a big suburb here? All the roads are graded, but there's not anything built.
  • Well i'm not sure how old this picture is, but there has been a lot of construction thats getting closer and closer to that area. Particularly on the eastern side of Loop 375 near Montwood and Zaragoza. I give that area another 10-15 years, if not less since Ft. Bliss is expecting 11,000 or so soldiers soon.
  • what is EL PASO all about ,i mean any good huntin /fishin and any hiking /camping .so whats up in el paso ???? any advise wud b appreciated !!!!i am excited about a future trip this way from tampa maybe in august/or sept thx in advance gbbbys@juno
  • This is known as Horizon Estates. It was a big, planned unit development back in the 1970s that failed along with a slew of other developments eventually wrapped up in the savings-and-loan failures of the 1980s. I personally have two parcels of dirt out here, and pay annual taxes / HOA fees of about $15 each. That tells you all you need to know. I disagree wiht omiks3 -- I think it's going to go undeveloped for another 30 years at least, and maybe longer unless the ELP region can figure out how to provide ample water. gibbysjuno, hiking is fantastic in the region, and you have great access from ELP to Carlsbad, White Sands, and Ruidoso.
