neighbourhood, residential neighbourhood
Caunter Hall is a neighbourhood within the city centre of George Town. It lies to the south of Sungai Pinang, bordering the neighbourhood of Batu Lanchang to the south and the Ayer Itam suburb to the west.
Due to its riverside location and flat terrain, Caunter Hall is relatively prone to flash floods. However, the neighbourhood also contains a few reputable educational institutions, including Penang Free School (Penang's oldest English school) and Han Chiang University College. P. Ramlee, a well-known Malaysian movie star in the 1950s and the 1960s, hailed from this neighbourhood as well.
