Bagan Jermal (George Town)

Malaysia / Pulau Pinang / Tanjong Tokong / George Town
 neighbourhood, residential neighbourhood

Bagan Jermal is a residential neighbourhood within the city of George Town. It lies 3.8km west of the city centre. Bagan Jermal borders two suburbs - Tanjung Tokong to the north and Pulau Tikus to the south - as well as Gurney Wharf, which forms part of the Gurney Drive Central Business District (CBD).

Bagan Jermal was named after fish traps set on poles along the shore, which were used for catching fish in coastal waters. Kampung Bagan Jermal, a fishing village adjacent to the Gurney Drive Roundabout, still exists to this day. Between 1957 and 2015, Bagan Jermal formed the northernmost limits of the city of George Town.

Today, Bagan Jermal is an upscale neighbourhood, following the rapid urbanisation at both Pulau Tikus and Tanjung Tokong.
