The highest point in the park is location of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, which has been been standing at this location since it was built in 1854. The lighthouse was closed in 1891, because fog and low clouds often obscured the light at its location 129 meters (422 feet) above sea level. At this time a new one was opened to the south at a lower elevation at the tip Point Loma.

Comments

  • Cabrillo National Monument is where you will find the ''drip'', a solar-powered birdbath that attracts so many species of birds. A BIrd Watcher's Haven and learn about all the wildlife if you come here. Listen for birds, opossums, and foxes on the Bayside Trail, another good place to go. Check for Jays and Squirrels, as well as lizards, hummingbirds, and warblers, by the picnic area basin.
