 restaurant, interesting place

Former commissary of what is now the Kaufman Astoria Studios with splendid tilework walls. In 1942, however, when the Army took over the building and began producing military films in the studio, the cafeteria became an officer’s club. It remained in military hands until 1970. Real estate magnate George Kaufman bought it in 1980 and restored the studio to its original purpose. It was known as George's Restaurant (known earlier as the Astor Room) which closed in May 2019.

It will be reopened as Sac's Place which was started in 1989 by Anthony and Domenico Sacramone.
