Heungguksa Pagoda Park - Heungguksa, meaning Temple of the Flourishing Kingdom, was built in 1196 according to the prophecy of an old divine Buddhist monk who said that the nation would flourish if a temple were built here. Heungguksa was burned down during the Mongol invasion of Goryeo and rebuilt during the Joseon period. Some buildings were burned down again during the Japanese invasions of 1592 and 1597 and rebuilt in 1642. Heungguksa is Cultural Property Materials #38.
