Acker, Merrall & Condit Wine

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 72nd Street, 160
 apartment building, commercial building

5-story Early 20th-century Commercial-style residential building completed in 1920. Designed by Deutsch & Polis, it is clad in white-painted stone above a 2-story base of tan stucco. The ground floor has an entrance to the upper floors at the left, with a glass-and-wood door, a storefront with glass-and-wood double-doors in the middle, and a wood-framed window at the right; there is a shallow arch above each opening. The 2nd floor has a wide 5-part studio window with aluminum framing. The base is capped by a cornice.

The upper floors have three bays of single-windows with simple stone sills and lintels, also painted white. A simple roof parapet and metal coping cap the roof line. The lower two floors--and presumably now upper--are occupied by Acker Merrall & Condit Wine Merchants, America's oldest purveyor. The exterior was restored by Laura Heim Architect.
