Gatsby House Condominium

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 71st Street, 155
 condominium, Art Deco (architecture)

6-story Art Deco/Streamline Moderne-style residential building completed in 1940. Designed by J.M. Felson, it is clad in two shades of beige brick. The building is organized into four wings by narrow, deep light courts at the north and south, and wider, shallower light courts at the east and west. The main entrance is at the rear of the south light court, with stainless-steel-and-glass double-doors below a red canvas awning, set in a stone enframement. The ground floor also has a narrow, gated service entrance at the far east end.

The wings to either side have five bays of single-windows, with beige iron grilles at the ground floor. The outer bays at both wings are clad in the darker shade of beige brick. Beige metal fire escapes with landings with rounded corners runs down two of the middle bays on each wing, and the tops are decorated by some lightly-paneled brickwork. A stone coping caps the roof line. Within the light court there are two bays of double-windows on the south-facing wall above the entrance, and the side walls have two bays of single-windows as well as smaller bathroom windows in between, beginning at the 2nd floor.

The building contains 55 condominium units. It is named for some reason after "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
