Estate residence designed c. 1896 in the Shingle style by C.P.H. Gilbert for Dr. Cornelius Nevius Hoagland {capitalist, financier, industrialist}. Hoagland served as founder of Hoagland Laboratory in Brooklyn, director of People's Trust Co. and Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. He also served as a founder of Cleveland Baking Powder Co.
The estate was purchased by George Patterson Tangeman who named it "Green Acres" and reportedly commissioned alterations by Lamb & Rich. It was subsequently owned by Cornelius Hoagland Tangeman and later Samuel O'Keefe.
