Originally known as the Myriad Convention Center, then later Cox Convention Center (formally known as the Cox Buisness Services Convention Center) was built between 1970 and 1972 as part of the 1960s-70s urban renewal initiative, the Pei Plan. In addition to convention space, center includes a 15,634 seat multipurpose indoor arena (sometimes still commonly called the Myriad Arena). The arena is the home of the Oklahoma City Barons hockey team of the AHL. Oklahoma City Roller Derby of the WFTDA and the Oklahoma City Wolfpack (currently independent men's roller derby league) currently skate inside the Convention Center's Exibit Hall #1 after relocating from auditorium at The Farmer's Market.
The Myriad was one of the 9 projects of the Metropolitan Area Projects sales tax initiative passed in 1993, and saw major improvements including upgrades to the arena and additional convention space. The arena would also recieve a $4.5 million in upgrades for the Oklahoma City Barons.
In addition to the Barons, the arena has been the host of several other teams throughout the years including the Oklahoma City Blazers (hockey) of the CHL from 1973–1977 and again from 1992–2002, the Oklahoma City Stars (hockey) of the CHL from 1978-1982, the Oklahoma City Cavalry (basketball) of the CBA from 1990-1997, the Oklahoma City Slickers (indoor soccer) of the USISL from 1991-1997 the Oklahoma Coyotes (roller hockey) of the RHI from 1995-1996, the Oklahoma Wranglers (arena football) of the AFL from 2000-2001, the Oklahoma Storm (basketball) of the USBL in 2002 (part time, the team also played in Enid, Ok), the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (arena football) of the AFL from 2009-2010 and the Bricktown Brawlers (indoor football) of the IFL in 2011.
