Frost Island

This corner of calm in the San Juan Islands is owned by a variety of folks who have chosen a rustic experience. No motor vehicles, no electricty, and a common pump system for well water make a deliciously peaceful experience. Some owners of the 14 private parcels have chosen to build cabins, with propane lights, kitchens, and propane heated showers. Others have a yurt, teepees or tent platforms. All have outhouses, most with views of the water. Otters play, eagles soar, hummingbirds buzz, and neighbors help with the 4th of July Picnic.

  • The name was given by Charles Wilkes during the Wilkes Expedition of 1838-1842, in honor of John Frost, the boatswain of the expedition's Porpoise.[*] * Phillips, James W. (1971). Washington State Place Names. University of Washington Press. ISBN 0-295-95158-3.
