residence, celebrity home, interesting place
Residence built c. 1902 for John Randall who was an early land developer in Freeport. This home is known as the "Freeport Spite House" because it was built expressly as a means to thwart a rival development project to the west. In order to prevent an extension to Lena Avenue, Randall commissioned the seven-bedroom home to be reportedly built in a single day. It was also positioned strategically on an angle to make the value of the attempted rival development worth less.
