Adra Tunnel (aka The Big Tunnel). A long tunnel on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail. Condemmned due to instability. Worth checking out!

This spiral tunnel, 1604 feet (489 metres) long, was the longest tunnel on the KVR. The entrances are partially blocked with cement walls to prevent access due to rock falls and some flooding. The Kettle Valley Rail-Trail/ Trans Canada Trail bypasses the tunnel via a short trail.

Comments

  • The tunnel entrance is no longer block.
  • blocked. But bring a high powered light (my flashlight app on the iPhone wasn't that helpful).
  • It was not blocked in 1979 when we walked through on the ties (and rails) still intact. Who's allowing this historic landmark to fade away ?!?! SHAME !!
