Svishtov Monastery Shroud of the Holy Mother

The Svishtov Monastery Shroud of the Holy Mother (aka Virgin Mary’s Winding Sheet; in Bulgarian: „Покров Богородичен“; transliterated: Pokrov Bogorodichen) is located in a beautiful grove some 5 km away from the town of Svishtov.
It was built during the Ottoman yoke and soon later was destroyed. In its current appearance the monastery is dated back to the end of XIX century. The monastery complex has a church (The Assumption of Virgin Mary), 2 residential buildings and an agricultural premise. The only reminder of the old cloister is the small stone-made altar lying in the monastery`s yard.
