Formerly The Stearns until around the 1930's and Stearns Motor Inn from 1965 until 2017. Now the name of the hotel has returned to its original name, it was once named Stearns Hotel between the 1930's until the early 1960's.

Built in 1901 (some claim it's 1903) by lumber baron Justus Smith Stearns (b. April 10, 1845 – d. February 14, 1933) as Ludington’s first major hotel. While updated substantially since then, the Stearns retains many historic elements of its early 20th century heritage.

We’re the closest accommodation to shopping, dining, and the carferry. Parks, marinas, and beaches are nearby. There’s ample parking for boats and trailers, and we’re always open. Sorry, no pets allowed.

The first floor currently contains a nightclub (part of this hotel), an insurance agent's office, a mortgage lender's office, a coin dealer/jewelry store, two hair salons, two lawyer's offices, and a radio broadcast center.

The hotel's historic ballroom which was abandoned in the 1970's, was reopened in 2005.

But long before the hotel was built, the logging of pine tress were first started in this location. It was logged off in 1849 by George W. Ford and Joseph W. Smith.
