Mason County Airport (IATA: LDM, ICAO: KLDM) is a county-owned public-use airport located two miles (3 km) northeast of downtown Ludington, a city in Mason County, Michigan.
Mason County Airport covers an area of 238 acres which contains two asphalt paved runways: 8/26 measuring 5,003 ft. x 75 ft. and 1/19 measuring 3,503 ft. x 75 ft. For the 12-month period ending December 31, 2005, the airport had 15,188 aircraft operations, an average of 41 per day: 87% general aviation and 13% air taxi. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, in which it is categorized as a local general aviation facility.
Between August 12, 2008 and January 21, 2014, the airport was temporarily used for emergency helicopters (or air ambulances) for patients transferring to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital via ambulances, which is 1.2 miles west from here. The use of the helipad in that hospital were halted on August 12, 2008 due to a helicopter crash that happened on top of a Spectrum Health Buttersworth Hospital building in Grand Rapids on May 29, 2008. That helipad was demolished in July 2012. But on January 22, 2014, air ambulance services to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital were resumed, with a new helipad (constructed in late 2013) which is located east of the hospital, along North Atkinson Drive.
On May 1, 2017, Ludington native John (L.) O'Connor has become the airport manager, replacing Dave Johnson who has been operating this airport since 1984.
