The Artist Boat Cultural heritage Preserve encompasses 605 acres of the former Chapoton Ranch which was sold to Marquette Development in 2007 who planned the largest residential development to ever potentially be built on Galveston Island. Artist Boat has used numerous grants and monetary donations to purchase and preserve land that would. have been a large marina flanked by mid-rise condos and large vacation homes.
