ruins, historic remains
The Assyrians knew Commagene as the land of Kummuh. The name apparently survived in that of the Turkish village of Kümimahe, which was located here before being abandoned sometime prior to the construction of the dam and the flooding of the area. Although it is unclear whether relatively recent Kümimahe lay directly atop an Iron Age site, its name serves as further support for the approximate location of the center of ancient Kummuh.
