Opened in 1922 as the Capitol Theater, it was later known as the Paramount Theatre, Broadway Capitol Theater and Grand Circus Theater.
After being shuttered for several years, it was purchased by the Michigan Opera Theatre in 1988 who restored and expanded it to include modern amenities required for performers and audience members.
Michigan Opera currently presents its own productions as well as other touring dance and theatrical performances.
