The complex consists of three main buildings. The renaissance-revival DTE Energy Building between Second Avenue and Grand River,built in 1921; the streamline Detroit Edison Service Building between Second and Third built in 1938 and the 25-story Edison Plaza completed in 1971 along with a concourse to connect the three buildings.
Original Plans called for the tower to be named for Detroit Edison chairman and CEO Walker Cisler, however this was changed shortly after the building was opened.
